Passports for Children (0-16)

All Canadian children, from newborn to age 16, require their own passport to travel. Children may only be issued a passport with a maximum validity of 5 years. Passports for children under 3 years of age are valid for only 3 years. A child's passport remains valid until it reaches its expiry date, even after the child turns 16.

A child who was born in Israel to Canadian parents will need to apply for a Certificate of Citizenship (see below) before applying for a passport. If the passport is needed before the certificate will be ready, a limited validity passport will be issued as long as the Passport Program can confirm one parent's Canadian citizenship. The limited validity passport is valid for two years and may not be extended. Normally, if the child is the first generation born outside of Canada, the child is a Canadian citizen.

You will need a guarantor to complete process requirements. The guarantor must have known the parent for at least two years and have knowledge of the child.

Required Documents

All documents must be originals for your application to be accepted. Any documents that are not in English or French must be submitted along with a translation produced by a certified translator. Don't ever send substitute documents or originals of documents that were not requested.

1) Complete application form PPTC 042. To save time, complete on the computer, then print. Do not leave anything blank; write N/A (not applicable) if a question does not apply to you.

2) Two identical passport pictures, 2 X 2" inches. Photo must be taken within 6 months prior to application. Photo specifications must be met in order for applications to be accepted. One photo must have the following information on the back:

a) Guarantor's note and signature of full name: "I certify this to be a true likeness of (applicant's name)"

b) Name and complete address of the photo studio and the date the photo was taken. This may be stamped or handwritten by the photographer.

4) Original Israeli birth certificate that indicates the name of the parents

5) Any valid Canadian travel document under the child's name

You can also use postal money order or certified bank order. To pay for application by mail with a credit card, fill out the official credit card authorization form.

If it is your child's first passport and you are applying for a Certificate of Citizenship as well, you must submit the application in person. Form PPTC 042 must be completely filled out before going to the Embassy.

Mail: Embassy of Canada, Consular Section, 3 Nirim Street, Tel Aviv 6706038, Israel

Street address: Canada House, 3/5 Nirim Street, 4th Floor, Tel Aviv 67060

To pick up your passport in person once it is ready, the child and one parent must be present. The Consulate strongly recommends that both parents and the child be present at the time of application submission, as well. Both parents must make at least one appearance at the Embassy, either to apply for the passport or to pick it up.

Processing time is officially 20 business days. Be sure to submit the application at least one month before your departure date.
